About Us

Built in the 16th Century, the Ship Inn is the second oldest building in what is now the bustling seaside resort of Clacton-on-Sea, with just the church across the road being older.

Originally a private house on an estate called ‘Stringers’, the Ship was owned in 1639 by Lord Darcy.
A local pub, popular with diners and drinkers alike, the Ship is proud to be the hub of the community, both for locals and those visiting us from further afield.
We’re dog friendly, family friendly and we offer a wide selection of real ales, European lagers, craft beer, ciders and fine wines.
In addition to this, our kitchen prepares a wide variety of homemade pub classic dishes every day alongside our chef’s daily specials and, of course, our delicious Sunday roasts – with pork, beef, turkey, vegetarian and vegan options available.

We’re open seven days a week and serve food Monday to Saturday from 12pm until 8pm, Sundays 12pm to 4.30pm. We serve pub classic dishes and daily fish and seafood specials.
Clacton-on-Sea itself is the largest town on the Essex Sunshine Coast, with lots of entertainment for all the family, including a pleasure pier, arcades, the Princes and the West Cliff Theatres, a golf course, seafront walks, water sports and an airfield offering pleasure flights.
Our new landlords Katie and Shawn recently took the helm and would love nothing more than to welcome you on board!
